SUMMARY:Gila Headwaters – Wild and Scenic River Restoration Invasive Plant Project (Community Event)
DESCRIPTION:*Organized and led by NM Wild and Heart of the Gila* \nJoin New Mexico Wild and Heart of the Gila for this one-day workshop and volunteer project at the headwaters of the Gila River. This is a family-friendly event and a way to give back to the Gila. We’ll explore the area and learn about the native and non-native species along the Gila River and what makes the Gila so vital to the forest ecosystem. Then\, our work together will involve removing non-native plants from this popular access to the Gila River and restoring this popular riverfront area for visitors and wildlife. We’ll include a short hike along the mainstem of the Gila River past the Gila Wilderness boundary and learn what makes this segment of the river so special and eligible for wild and scenic designation. \nJoin us for the day or opt to make a weekend out of it to explore the Gila River and nearby hot springs. \nWhat to bring: your own lunch\, plenty of water\, layers appropriate for changing temperatures and unpredictable weather conditions\, sun protection (layers\, sunscreen\, hat)\, long pants and close-toed shoes appropriate for working outdoors\, on uneven terrain\, and with river crossings. Bathing suit and water appropriate clothing for swimming and river wading. \nWe will provide all work tools and protective equipment needed. SUMMARY:CDT Nacimiento Corridor Enhancement Project (Community Event)
DESCRIPTION:*Organized and led by NM Wild\, the Continental Divide trail Coalition and CDT Trail Adopter Dr. Kozoll* \nNew Mexico Wild is seeking volunteers to contribute to a trail maintenance project co-led by the Continental Divide Trail Coalition and CDT Trail Adopter\, Dr. Richard (Dick) Kozoll. This project is scheduled for Saturday\, June 21 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Santa Fe National Forest staff will also participate in the project.  \nThis project will focus on corridor improvement and signage of the upper and lower portions of a new section of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail (CDT) from the Nacimiento Mine to the Las Vacas Trail junction\, to improve public access and enjoyment along the CDT. \nThis is a great opportunity to see this amazing new trail and contribute to its improvement! \nMeeting Location\nWe will meet at 10 am at the Nacimiento Mine entrance on NM Highway 126\, 5 miles east of Cuba and 1/2 mile past the cattleguard at the Santa Fe Forest boundary. DESCRIPTION:*Organized and led by the Santa Fe Watershed Association* \nJoin us for a hands-on rain garden workshop on Saturday\, June 28 at Santa Fe High School from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. The workshop will be led by Aaron Kauffman of Southwest Urban Hydrology with support from the City of Santa Fe. \nPlease RSVP here \nBetween Fall of 2019 and Spring of 2020\, nearly 30 rain gardens were installed at the Santa Fe High School campus\, capturing over 500\,000 gallons of water a year. At this workshop\, you’ll learn about the use and benefits of rain gardens\, as well as techniques for basic maintenance\, including sediment removal\, weeding\, and general beautification.
