About PEEC: PEEC is a 501(c)3 nonprofit funded by donations, memberships, grants, and contracts for services. Our mission is enriching people’s lives by strengthening their connections to our canyons, mesas, mountains and skies. We are the operators of the Los Alamos Nature Center in Los Alamos, NM. Job Summary: Deliver high-quality, mission-driven, hands-on environmental education programs to students in grades pre-K-12 from northern New Mexico, specifically Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Santa Fe, and Sandoval Counties.

Salary, Hours, and Benefits: This position is hourly, and works around 30 hours per week, with seasonal fluctuations. The starting rate of pay is $19 – $21 per hour, depending on qualifications. Able to work both independently and on a team with minimal supervision
Organized and able to juggle complicated schedules
Comfortable working in an outdoor setting for prolonged periods, in all types of weather
Required Qualifications:
Experienced in teaching, designing, and implementing programs for grades pre-K to 12
Preferred Qualifications:
Two years of experience in environmental education, natural science, outdoor recreation, education, or a related field or degreed from an accredited college/university in these areas
Experienced in working with diverse communities of learners
Connected to northern New Mexico communities in PEEC’s service area, including Española Valley and northern New Mexico Pueblos
Key Areas of Responsibility
Pre-K-12 Teaching
Teach PEEC education programs for grades pre-K to 12, including classroom lessons and field trips to the nature center and public lands for schools in surrounding counties
Work with PEEC education staff to develop and lead outreach education programs on a variety of topics, including sustainability and resource conservation
Track education program data
Out of School Time Programs
Teach out-of-school-time programs, such as after-school clubs, summer camps, birthday parties, scouting badges, private visits, and summer camp groups
Coordinate PEEC birthday party programming
Distribute and collect evaluations for out-of-school-time programs
Track out-of-school-time programs data
Nature Center, Outreach,and Events
Staff PEEC booth, communicate with the public, and lead instructional activities at events
Attend and participate in annual PEEC events such as Earth Day, Bear Fest, and PEECnic
Act as Staff on Duty during some open hours at the nature center
Act as a representative of PEEC at local and regional events, fairs, festivals, and STEAM days
Attend weekly staff meetings
