Bosque Backpackers Co-teacher Love to work with preschoolers? Love to be outside? Bosque Backpackers is for you!! This opening is in our outdoor classroom, the Bosque Backpackers. Guided by the “forest school” model, teachers take children to an outdoor site where they play all day immersed in nature. This outdoor classroom operates M-F in all but the most extreme weather. It is an unstructured play-based program that allows children to direct their own learning. Our programs don’t require teachers to spend time on meaningless paperwork. Instead, we allow learning to happen through play! GREAT LOCATION – CLOSE TO UNM, CNM, NOB HILL EXCELLENT WORK ENVIRONMENT – POSITIVE, SUPPORTIVE, PLAYFUL, RELAXED. The Bosque Backpacker teacher’s responsibilities include: driving a small school bus to an outdoor location organizing and loading daily gear monitoring the weather to determine the best outdoor location communicating with families about their child’s day, progress, etc. supervising thirteen 3-5 year-old children with a co-teacher (7:1 max ratio) continuously assessing risk/benefit in a changing environment guiding and supporting children’s play observing and logging learning being prepared for the weather and helping children/family’s prepare the appropriate gear and clothing.

Required skills and attributes include: Relating warmly to children, parents, and co-workers Lifting 50 pounds and getting up and down from the ground frequently Communicating effectively in person and in writing The ability to work collaboratively on a team of 2 teachers The ability to work outdoors in all weather (and love it!) Being in partnership with young children in a collaborative learning community

Education and Experience Requirements include: At least 3 years experience in an early childhood setting preferred. Will consider experience with older children. A degree in Early Childhood preferred. Will consider a degree in another field, or additional experience in lieu of a degree. Job Type: Full-time. 8:30-3:30 or the option to extend the day for a full 40-hour work week. Option for summers off.

Salary: $20.00 per hour
