Outdoor Educator 
Year-round, Full-time, 40 hours/week

This position is hired through Tryfacta (a contract employment agency) and not through the City of Albuquerque.

Position Responsibilities:
Participate in Open Space Education Program and Division trainings.
Collaborate with a team to plan and deliver community events on public lands and in public facilities.
Design and implement lesson plans that align with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
Prepare, organize, and maintain educational materials and supplies.
Foster a safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
Communicate effectively with colleagues, program participants, and the general public.

Teaching Responsibilities:

Team-Teach Programs (including but not limited to):Explorer Camps (ages 6-10)
Outdoor Field School (ages 10-14)
Farm in Your Neighborhood (ages 10-14)
Rio Grande Community Farm Education Programs
Solo-Teach Programs (including but not limited to):Discovery Days (ages 0-6)
Nature in Your Neighborhood (ages 6-9, with a recreation leader present)
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum of two years of college coursework.
At least three years of experience in outdoor recreation, education, or community programming (equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered on a year-for-year basis).
Passion for outdoor education and working with diverse youth.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and hike up to 2.5 miles per day.

Employment Requirements:
Successfully pass a background check and drug test.
Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Must obtain a New Mexico Driver’s License and City Operator’s Permit (COP) to drive city vehicles for program work.
Ability to work a flexible and unpredictable schedule.

Office Location: Open Space Visitor Center, 6500 Coors NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120

Work Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday
Work Locations: Various public lands, schools, and community centers throughout Albuquerque
Compensation: $17.55 per hour, 40 hours per week, paid City holidays, and sick leave accrual through Tryfacta
