The NM BioPark Society is now hiring teachers for summer educator roles at the Albuquerque BioPark’s Zoo, Aquarium and Botanic Garden. These positions are hired through a temporary staffing agency and are funded through the NM BioPark Society.
All hired summer teachers must attend training in April or May (date to be announced) and be available for work from the week of June 2-27 and July 7-25. Both full and part time positions are available.
Requirements: The minimum education and experience requirements are a high school diploma plus at least two years of major coursework in science, education, or a related field, and 3-6 months teaching experience, formal or informal, preferably in the sciences.
Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.
All applicants must pass a background check.
The individuals selected as the Camp BioPark Teachers will:
Conduct one or more of 15 different week-long day camps for grades K-1, 2-3, 4-6 or 7-9. Visit the website for a complete list of classes. Camps consist of 10-12 campers.
Develop and implement lesson plans and activities for the assigned class
Promote conservation through experiential learning utilizing the BioPark’s facilities
Maintain a safe learning environment
Engage each child in an active, inquiry based, child-centered atmosphere
Supervise volunteers assigned to assist with each Camp BioPark classes
Communicate effectively with BioPark staff, campers and parents/guardians of campers
Perform general administrative tasks associated with Camp BioPark
Teacher Work schedule: Monday-Friday; 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. for full-day camps or 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. for half-day camps. Camp offerings vary each week. See the full schedule on the website.
Pay rate: $16 per hour; hours per week varies with assignment.
